Toxic People & Relationships
Read: John 13:1-17
When you look for toxic people in the gospel, your eyes might land on Herod, Pilate, the religious leaders or Judas. There is something horrifying about Judas – he is a disciple, Jesus chose him as one of the twelve, he is a friend, a companion over the three years of Jesus’ ministry.
Toxic people are inevitable. How do you deal with them? How did Jesus deal with Judas?
Jesus’ way of dealing with toxic people was to serve them, show them love, and welcome them in. If we are to follow Jesus, this is how we should deal with toxic people! Jesus says: “do this in remembrance of me” as He ate with a toxic person.
What is our purpose? Is it to change the toxic person or is it to be like Jesus? No, It is not to change people – it is right after this that Jesus frees him to betray Him. It is our goal to be like Jesus and let God change your Judas (toxic people.)
How do you identify or recognize your Judas (Toxic People)?
- Toxic People – keep you guessing about which version of them you’re getting.
- Toxic People – manipulate.
- Toxic People – won’t own their feelings.
- Toxic People – make you prove yourself to them.
- Toxic People – never apologize.
- Toxic People – are there in a crisis but never ever share in your joy.
- Toxic People – leave a conversation unfinished – and then go offline and hide.
- Toxic People – use non-toxic words with a toxic tone.
- Toxic People – bring irrelevant detail into conversations.
- Toxic People – make it about the way you’re talking, rather than what you’re talking about.
- Toxic People – exaggerate.
- Toxic People – are judgmental.
It doesn’t have to be all these things…It could be just one.
What you should do? How to I graud myself from Judas (Toxic People)?
- Squash Negative –Talk
- Set Limits (Especially with Complainers)
- Rise Above
- Stay Aware of those Emotions
- Establish Boundaries and STICK WITH THEM
- Don’t Let Anyone Limit You Joy
- Don’t Focus on them as a Problem—Focus on you as a Solution
- Use A Support System – Surround yourself with positive uplifting people who show you love and support.
Pray this prayer with me:
Father God, I blind my own role in any and all toxic relationships. Help me see the truth about myself. Apply the healing power of Your Word to my heart and mind. Deliver me from any stronghold that causes me to harm people with my words and actions. Save me from self-destructive patterns.
I struggle in my relationship with ______. I need You to give me wisdom on how to love ____ well. You are my shield and defender. Show me how, when and where to erect boundaries in our relationship. I believe You are my healer and I trust You to guard my heart and mind.
I need Your specific directions on how to interact with ______.
I want to love _____ with a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. (1 Timothy 1:5)
Help me to love ______ courageously. Fill me with Your truth and compel me to fearlessly tell the truth with love. Let Your perfect love cast out all of my fears related to our relationship.
I forgive ______ for hurting me. I ask You to forgive me for _______ and _______. I acknowledge my emotions: _______, _________, and _______. And I invite You to steady my heart so my emotions do not rule my decisions. I surrender what I think our relationship should be. Please transform it so that it honors You.
In Jesus matchless name, I pray. Amen!!

GET UP! [Again]
Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead…Philippians 3:13 NIV
The enemy loves when you make your “Permanent Address” in a “Temporary Place.”
He loves when you don’t get to the “Answer” because you are so settled in your problem. He loves when you sit in misery. He loves when you STOP focusing on pursuing your dreams.
GET UP! This is not as good as it gets..This is not where it ends.. It will get better but you have to GET UP! Start moving towards the answer and away from the problem. No matter what it looks or feels like, this is not the end of the story!! God specializes in bringing dead things to life! Test and trials come to make you strong not STUCK. Keep moving towards your destiny. #hewilltradeyourashesforbeauty #GetUp

Pray this prayer with me:
Precious Lord, I need your help.
Help me each day, for I cannot always help myself.
Help me to do only your will each day.
Help me to pray each day as much as I am able.
When things collapse, help me to yield all things up to you.
When things collapse, help me to be a real human being and get down on my knees and pray to you.
In your good will, let my worst times in life be made to be your best times for me.
When I hurt the most, help me open my heart and life so you can heal me more.
When I fall down, help me get back up and learn from my mistakes.
Let my will be submerged in your will and in your love.
Let all that I want to do be only what you want me to do.
Let me be your child rather than being my own adult.
All these things I humbly pray in the name of my most Blessed Lord Jesus Christ, Amen

IT WILL NEVER LOSE IT’S POWER!
(1 John 1:9) – If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins, and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Only Jesus’ blood can cleanse and sustain us!
He lovingly forgives us time and time again. Through His forgiveness, we are made whole with the Father. No matter how low we fall. No matter how much”dirt” we’ve done.
With our sincere confessing and commitment to strive to live in line with His Will we can be forgiven.
We must remember that God knows our heart. It’s a relationship! It is the Blood of the Lamb, that purifies us and His Holy Spirit keeps us “right.” “I know it was the Blood for me” and “that blood He shed way back on Calvary will never lose its Power. It was then, and it is still today…POWER!!
Pray this prayer with me:
Gentle And Wonderful God…
Truly Awesome And Ever-present Holy Spirit…
When I was weak, you gave me strength.
When I was thirsty, you gave me drink.
When I was alone, you came to be with me.
When I was in pain, you came to comfort me.
When I was afraid, you came and gave me courage.
When I was uncertain, you came and gave me faith.
When I was broken, you came and healed me.
When I was hopeless, you came and gave me hope.
When I was grieving, you came and dried my tears.
When I was downhearted, you came and gave me laughter.
When I was impoverished, you came and gave me the riches of your love.
In all these things, you brought me into the endless circle of your power of love.
All these things I humbly pray in the name of my most Blessed Lord Jesus Christ, my Mighty God, and my Ever-present Holy Spirit upon whom I can rely. Amen!!

A prayer for you: I love you, Lord Jesus. This physical pain is tearing away at my heart, mind, and soul. I can’t think straight. I can’t feel any emotion except depression. I know you are real but whatever presence you had in my heart isn’t there at the moment. Although I cannot sense your presence right now, in what little faith I have, I proclaim you as God of the universe and as my Lord and Savior. In all the power you have, help me put a wall between the pain and what the pain tries to do to my heart, mind, and soul. In your power of grace and love, help me put a wall between this pain and my depression. In your power of grace and love, help me put a wall between this pain and my lack of motivation and inspiration. In your power of grace and love, help me put a wall between this pain and my soul aching for your healing hand. May the evil power causing my pain be forever shielded from me. May I be able to laugh, live, and be free, even in the dark moments when this pain may try to take me down. By your power I refuse to lose and let this pain do anything to me. By your power I refuse to lose to this pain. By your power I refuse to lose contact with you because of this pain. By your power I refuse to lose and knuckle under to this pain. By your power, love, grace, and will, help me see you, Precious Lord Jesus, Precious Father God, Precious Holy Spirit, Precious Blessed Virgin Mary, and your wonderful earthly father Joseph. As a group, standing all around me, may all of you please place your hands upon me and infuse the healing power of your love into my heart, mind, soul, and body. All these things I humbly pray in the name of my most Blessed Lord Jesus Christ, my Mighty God, and my Ever-present Holy Spirit upon whom I can rely. Amen!!

God’s timing…and Obedience!!
The past two weeks have been “different” for me. I have experienced emotions that I don’t quite understand. God has moved like a flood in my world, life and relationships. I am a creature of habit and flow in unconfirmed “OCD” wanting nothing out of order. About a month ago I was led to a pastor on the East Coast, Jay Patrick – I would read his Facebook post “religiously” – He was on Periscope but I couldn’t see them. I went out and bought an iPad so I could see his Scopes – My LORD – I was blessed every time I would view…I would share…I was being blessed beyond measure, to GOD be ALL the Glory. I started to research him…his ministry…his lifestyle – I started to pray for him intentionally.
Too much to unpack here but (long story short) – I am going to the East Coast next month and I am planning to personally go to his church and plant a seed in his ministry. I was finishing up my prayer time this morning and I had a bit of a heavy heart – and I received a message from one of my sister…Asking how I was and how my week went – I gave a short answer – I’m good. I asked how she was – and she shared that God was moving mightily in her life..but of course with that comes the one who like to Rob, Steal & Destroy – I laughed as I thought about my “emotional side swiped” incident this past week and I wanted to give her a word of encouragement and I drew a blank…I started to feel my own disappointment of what “pains” are connected with winning and success in CHRIST. As I lowered my head in shame because I was feeling discouraged…my phone vibrated and I checked it and what I found was THIS message from Pastor Jay Patrick…
Michelle,
As a supporter of my ministry, I wanted to strategically pray for you today! I feel led to ask God to give you Supernatural Strategy and Creative Clarity! Lord, give her the ability to see in the spirit so the vision can come to pass. Let her heart be strengthened in every area of doubt and weakness. Place a hedge of protection around her. Let the haters become congratulators! Prepare a table in the presence of any enemies you have….knowing and unknowingly! I call your children and your spouse blessed!!! Lord, don’t let her settle for anything less than your Word. For your Word, shall be performed and established in her life!!! Amen!!! Thank you for your support! Love and Blessings Multiplied!!! – Pastor Jay
I dropped to the floor and WORSHIPED GOD in that very moment…I was so grateful! I was so overcome with JOY! I felt a new level of HOPE!
My God is so ever-present and He loves me so much and even when I think He is not paying attention to me…HE COVERS ME with the absolute touch that I need…Right On Time, Every time!!
GOD, I THANK YOU…I LOVE YOU…I WILL WORSHIP YOU ALL THE DAYS OF MY LIFE!!

“HIS Plan”
For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for ME will find it. Matthew 16:25
At times we find ourselves “caught up”, attaching our hearts and minds to people and things that are not in alignment with our Purpose and God’s plan for our lives.
Then we get discouraged when OUR grand life plans don’t work out.
Remember that every good and perfect thing comes from above. If we shift our focus UP, therein lies our PURPOSE!
Please be advised that the excess baggage will fall away, but your dreams, peace, destiny and PURPOSE will be waiting for you on the other side.
SO RELAX in the promises of GOD. You are a Masterpiece and there is a Master Plan for your Life. Remember WHO you are!!!

Pray this prayer with me:
Precious Lord Jesus, Help me to put others first.
Help me to build others up. Inspire me to never tear others down in any way.
Inspire me to always help others. Inspire me to help others according to their need, not according to what I want them to need or according to what I think they should need.
Help me to not shower others with benefits when I hurt for them or hurt with them.
Help me not make others helplessly dependent which tears them down.
Instead, help me empower others to stand and deliver on their own.
Help me always do everything I can possibly do to walk in other’s shoes.
Help me see things the way others see them. Whenever I speak, help me make sure what I say would be what you would say to help others. Whenever I speak, help me make sure my words are not my words but your words. Whenever I speak, let your words come out of my mouth so your words heal others. Whenever I speak, let your words come out of my mouth so your words bring others into wholeness and spiritual prosperity in your holy name.
All these things I humbly pray in the name of my most Blessed Lord Jesus Christ, Amen!

A Prayer For PEACE
Thank you for your peace.
May I always be a humble servant for you.
May I always do the work you call me to do.
According to your sweet will, let your peace reign in my life and in my soul.
Let your peace reign in my life as I shun the thoughts of war.
Let your peace reign in my life as I shun arguments and verbal battles with others.
Let your peace reign in my life as I try to make peace with my enemies.
Let your peace reign in my life by helping me give peace a chance even when I know I must defend those who cannot defend themselves against aggressors who want to kill, maim, and destroy.
Let your peace be with me as I rise above the purveyors of hate by trying to get them to stop hating.
Let your peace be with me as I try to avoid war even when I must prepare for it.
Let my wishes, hopes, dreams, and the promises I embrace be peaceful.
In Jesus’ Name, AMEN!

Seeking PEACE…OnPurpose
He has never left me alone!
(John 14:25-26) “All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
How do we keep silent lips and stay in prayer for the ones who persecute us, while they are persecuting us?
Has there ever been a time when a scripture you haven’t quoted in far too long miraculously comes to mind and speaks right to your present situation?
It’s the Holy Spirit that makes us do good when we want to do bad.
When this world, our natural flesh and limited understanding can’t and won’t allow us to comprehend it, The Holy Spirit will direct us to do that what is in His Will.
When the Saint step outside of God’s Will, His Holy Spirit does makes us quite aware of it. He will speak to our hearts. It is up to us to heed to or reject His beckoning.
Too many are involved with ways of trying to escape and/or mask their own conviction and guilt. Jesus said, ” if ye love me, keep my commandments.”
Do we really love Him? He left us physically yes, but spiritually He is still right here with us, and He stays with the Saint who stays with Him. We can leave Him, but He promised never to leave or forsakeus.

Pray this prayer with me:
Precious Father, Precious Lord Jesus, Wonderful Holy Spirit, I cannot hear you Lord.
All I hear is my own thoughts. All I hear is the hum of distant machinery. There is silence in my heart, and I am sad. But wait, now I hear you speak. I hear you tell me to open up.
Yes, Lord. Yes, I can hear you say to open up my heart and life.
Yes, Lord, I praise your holy name for touching my mind and letting me know you are listening to me. In your holy name, please open the hearts of all of your children on this earth. We have gone astray and have not obeyed you. We do not listen.
Please forgive us. We have closed off our heart. We have committed abominable sins in your sight. We have not repented. Please touch lives. Please touch hearts.
In whatever way you can, protect those who are without fault.
In whatever way you can, reach into the life of those who cannot protect themselves from the coming wrath. Please lift up those who cannot lift themselves.
For all those who need you, who call out to you, who praise your name, please pull them up, lift them up, surround them with your mighty love and protect them.
Open our heart to your sweet voice. Open our life to your truth.
When it is time for the great devastation to come to the earth, give special blessings to all those who try to be your children. May your name be praised forever and ever.
We love you, O Lord. We adore you, Precious One. All these things we humbly pray.
In the name of God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit who lives within us and touches us, Amen!!

STARTING OVER WHEN YOU DON’T FEEL LIKE IT!
We live in a society where a woman has to win a beauty contest or marry well to get recognition in this world. Thanks be to GOD who doesn’t say the same. My looks, my accomplishments in business, education or ministry are not what gets His attention!
I have put some thought into getting my credentials from God directly. I starting thinking “What would that look like?” and I ended up in the Book of Ruth. How could I get my own book like Ruth?
God was impressed with Ruth. She earned His credentials of approval.
I think God wants us to understand what impresses Him about women like her.
What do you think impressed God? Was it the fact that Ruth was a girl that…
- -Worked hard
- -Was very humble
- -Was not self-centered
- -And had a servant’s heart
We’re told in Matthew 20: Jesus said to His James and John “You will indeed drink from my cup, but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared by my Father.”
When the ten heard about this, they were indignant with the two brothers.
Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave – just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Ruth 2:11-12 tells us:
Boaz replied, “I’ve been told all about what you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband— how you left your father and mother and your homeland and came to live with a people you did not know before. May the LORD repay you for what you have done? May you be richly rewarded by the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge?”
Ruth 3:11 adds: “And now, my daughter, don’t be afraid. I will do for you all you ask. All my fellow townsmen know that you are a woman of noble character.”
God is saying to us as women: this is what I want you to aspire to. This is my ideal type of woman. Whether you are a poor girl in the fields or an empress in a palace.
God chose Ruth because she modeled these traits with graciousness, patience and self-sacrifice. AND because Ruth loved Naomi and had learned to trust Naomi’s God.
The story begins with Ruth as a young woman. Her life seems to hold a bright future. She marries a husband with strong family ties. They begin building a life together. But in a few short years her family is demolished by death. Ruth’s husband, father-in-law, and brother-in-law die. Ruth and two women she has no blood relation with have to start over.
That is what God is calling us all to. When it is all said and done…What will you do when you don’t know what to do? Will you trust me? Will you go where I send you? Will you put your own self aside to become Kingdom Focused?
That’s the type of person who impresses God – whether male or female. But before you can truly impress God, you must make the decision that Ruth made when she first considered leaving with Naomi. You must decide to take God as your own…
This story then is not just about the redemption of one Moabite woman named Ruth.
IT IS THE STORY OF THE REDEMPTION OF US ALL! Look deeper into this story and you see yourself!
The story of Ruth contains powerful principles I want to focus on three that I want to call Kingdom Focused surrounding STARTING OVER WHEN YOU DON’T FEEL LIKE IT!
FIND SOMEONE ELSE WHO IS HURTING AND BE A FRIEND TO HIM OR HER.
Ruth lost her husband but Naomi had lost her husband and both her sons. It is not to say that Ruth was not in a painful place but all things considered her mother-in-law had 3 times the loss.
Here are three scriptures that I want to share:
- Matthew 5:4 ESV – “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
- 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 ESV – Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
- Romans 8:18 ESV – For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
God USES and BLESSES people who don’t get all wrapped up in themselves all the time! And the interesting thing is, WE HELP OURSELVES OUT OF TROUBLE WHEN WE DECIDE TO HELP OTHERS OUT OF TROUBLE.
You see, we usually get a bad case of the blues when we’re focused on our self. Focus on meeting the needs of someone else and see if it’s not the best possible medicine for you! God made it that way on purpose. He wants us to be like Him. Always giving. Unselfish. Ministering to the needs of others. That’s where the joy in life comes from.
When you DON’T FEEL LIKE STARTING OVER, when you can’t get motivated, find a hurt and heal it. Find a need and meet it. Find a fellow pilgrim who is discouraged and try to give them comfort with a Kingdom Focused Life!
SINCE YOU’RE GOING TO HAVE TO TAKE RISKS IN LIFE, TAKE SOME FOR GOD!
Ruth probably saw that her mother-in-law Naomi had some reality in her religion. Most likely she told Ruth about her God and the Hebrew teaching that this life was not all there is. In some way Ruth surely must have been able to sense something was different about the God the Hebrews worshipped. The heathen deities of Moab weren’t doing Ruth any good so she took a chance on finding out more about Jehovah. But it was a risk based on what she had learned and experienced so far. Being involved with her husband’s family and hearing them talk about their God must have moved her heart. She had to know more.
There has to be an intentional push for progress. Nothing happens if nothing happens. God needs us to do and be here on Earth as it is in Heaven.
- Matthew 25:29 ESV – For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.
- Proverbs 3:5 ESV – Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
- Ephesians 4:22-24 ESV – To put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
How many times have your taken risk on things you know you know were no earthly good? So why then will you not take a risk in following GOD – to a life that promises to full of riches and glory? If you are at rock bottom anywhere where is it there to go but UP!! I guess if you are comfortable with staying where you are…you could try that, right?
When you DON’T FEEL LIKE STARTING OVER, when where you are and what you are doing is not working for your, look for risks that will being you closer to CHRIST and see the fresh rewards of a Kingdom Focused Life!
EXPECT GREAT THINGS FROM GOD!
Pray this prayer with me:
Precious Lord Jesus, I love you.
I looked in a mirror the other day.
It was the mirror I used when I was a young.
Somehow I expected to see the young me but I saw the real me instead.
I saw my age. I saw my gray hair. It was a shock.
But then I got to thinking…
I got to thinking about where I look to see who I am.
I realized the first place I should look to see who I am is in your eyes, in the eyes of my Lord and Savior.
In your eyes I can see your love for me.
In your eyes I can see your acceptance.
In your eyes I can see your forgiveness.
In your eyes I can see your infinite hope for my life and for my soul.
I give you praise, for as long as I look to you, I shall care not how the world sees me.
I give you praise, for as long as I look to you, I shall find you loving me in ways the world does not understand nor accept.
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for loving me in infinite ways.
All these things I humbly pray in the name of my most Blessed Lord Jesus Christ, my Mighty God, and my Ever-present Holy Spirit upon whom I can rely. Amen
